Power restored to thousands of I&M customers in Michiana

An Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) outage affected thousands of customers across Indiana and Michigan on Tuesday morning.

Power was restored for about 13,500 customers by 10:30 a.m. Crews estimated that the remaining customers' power would be restored by 12 p.m., I&M said.

According to I&M’s outage map, on Tuesday, over 9,000 customers in Elkhart County, over 2,100 in St. Joseph County and nearly 400 in Cass County  were without power.

The outages began around 6:30 a.m. and stemmed from a substation outage, I&M said.

I&M tweeted out that the outage map was incorrectly displaying outages, causing it to show larger areas affected than actually were.
