Illinois man freed after conviction overturned

CHICAGO -- A man in Illinois is walking free after spending 30 years behind bars for a crime he did not do.


A Cook County judge overturned the rape conviction for Stanley Wrice on Tuesday after a key witness testified that Chicago police beat him into falsely confessing.


"It's taken 31 years about what everyone has known for decades," said Wrice's attorney Heidi Linn Lambros.


"The evidence was weak in the first place and it's non-existent now," said Wrice's attorney Jennifer Bonjean.


Disgraced Chicago Cop Lt. Jon Burge is serving time in federal prison after he was convicted of perjury related to torture allegations.
