Illinois man killed on Indiana Toll Road Wednesday morning
LAKE COUNTY, Ind. -- On Aug. 1, Indiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash that happened near Mile Marker 8 in the westbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road around 3:20 a.m.
According to authorities, a grey 2004 Honda car crashed into a center concrete barrier which shut down westbound traffic. The driver of the Honda was allegedly standing near the crashed vehicle when a silver 2020 Honda SUV, driven by 20-year-old Oak Park, Ill. resident Luke Coffey.
The victim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Once the family of the deceased has been notified, the Lake County Coroner will release the name of the victim.
Coffey was taken to a local hospital, treated, and released.
Westbound lanes of the toll road reopened at approximately 9:13 a.m. EST
Toxicology reports are currently pending, (and) no other information has been released on the matter as this is an ongoing investigation.
