Illinois passes same-sex marriage

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois will become the 15th state to legalize same sex marriage once Governor Pat Quinn signs the measure into law.

Tuesday, both the house and senate passed the measure.

People in Illinois say they are excited about the news.

"All the rights that you get as a married couple, we get now. And I think it just validates our relationship," said same-sex marriage supporter Bernard Bartilad.

"When two adults love each other, the state should embrace that rather than stand in the way," said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Same-sex marriage supporters are now planning to rally this week to celebrate the measure.
