Indiana Amazon fulfillment centers shipping 426 items per second

Millions of Americans are shopping online for Cyber Monday, so it is an extremely busy day for businesses processing those orders.

Distribution centers like one in Boone, Indiana are processing and shipping roughly 426 items per second, which is why Amazon hired 14 percent more workers this holiday season.

“Amazon has hired for the holiday over 80,000 employees around the country, and in the state of Indiana, we've hired thousands alone, hundreds in this building. So we've got a lot of our elves ready to go and ready to ship,” says Dave Alperson, the General Manager of the Whitestown Fulfillment Center.

There are 10 fulfillment centers using robots to sort out inventory to speed up the sorting process.

Amazon says Indiana's warehouses are not using this technology yet, but might down the road.
