Indiana DNR investigating campsite reservation scam

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a potential scam that impacts Hoosiers booking campsites.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Law Enforcement, a third party is falsely renting campsites to Hoosiers who discover the site they paid for isn’t available upon arrival.

Examples of this scam possibly date back as far as July 2021.

If you have used a third party on social media to reserve a site for the upcoming year, you could be a victim of the scam and are asked to contact conservation officers.

Officers believe the following state properties have been advertised in the scam: Spring Mill State Park, McCormick’s Creek State Park, Trine State Recreation Area, Greene Sullivan State Forest, and Morgan-Monroe State Forest.

If you think you are or have been a victim of this scam, please call the Indiana Conservation Officer Central Dispatch at 812-837-9536.

Campsite visitors should only make reservations for DNR properties using the official DNR website or the DNR Reservation Line at 866-622-6746.
