INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana's state gasoline taxes will fall by about 5 cents per gallon next month in the first significant drop since reaching record levels in the spring with the national surge in pump prices.
A total of 57 cents per gallon in state taxes will be charged during September under rate changes released Wednesday by the Indiana Department of Revenue.
That will be down from August's record-high rate of 62.4 cents, a fluctuation that comes as Indiana's 7% sales tax on gasoline is calculated monthly along with a tax directed to infrastructure projects.
Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb and GOP legislators have rejected calls from Democrats to temporarily suspend state gas taxes.
