Indiana State Police mourn the loss of K9 Zeus

Indiana State Police announced Wednesday that K9 Zeus, an eight-year-old German Shephard/Belgium Malinois mix, has died.

K9 Zeus patrolled with Trooper Logan Hensley for the past year on the Indiana Toll Road.

He previously worked with Sgt. Tyson Waldron at the Fort Wayne Post for five years.

Zeus originally retired when Sgt. Waldron was promoted but was brought out of retirement and reassigned to the Toll Road Post.

K9 Zeus was trained in narcotics detection and suspect apprehension. During his career, he recovered the following:

  • $540,700 in fraudulent credit cards
  • 56 illegally possessed firearms
  • 5 pounds of methamphetamine
  • 1.2 pounds of cocaine
  • 3.3 pounds of heroin
  • 361 pounds of marijuana
  • $145,094 in seized drug money
  • 12 suspect apprehensions

Zeus was humanely euthanized on October 14 after battling a sudden illness.
