MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. - The Indiana State Prison employee who was assaulted by an inmate on Monday is not expected to survive his injuries.

The prison identified the employee as Mike Keel.

Keel worked as a maintenance foreman at the prison and recently celebrated his 29th anniversary with the Department of Corrections.

He was known across the agency for his workmanship, including a bell that sits at the prison's Fallen Staff Memorial.
