Indiana State Troopers pursue reckless driver on I-65
JASPER COUNTY, Ind. - On Saturday at approximately 5:37 pm on I-65 northbound near the 174 mile marker, a trooper attempted to stop a speeding vehicle.
Trooper Michael Risley says that he was stationary with his lights on sitting at the 174 mile marker cross over on I-65 when he observed a vehicle northbound traveling at a high rate of speed.
Trooper Risley activated his emergency lights to attempt to stop the gray 2019 Dodge Charger when the driver shut off the light and appeared to be fleeing from the trooper.
They exited a construction area at the 177 mile marker, when the trooper's car broke down and the gray Dodge Charger continued on.
A second Trooper overheard the radio traffic on his police radio and relocated the Dodge Charger at the 189 mile mark.
Trooper Dakota Michael attempted to catch up to the vehicle which was still in excess of the speed limit and driving from the left shoulder of the road to the right shoulder passing others cars in a reckless manner.
He eventually lost site of the Dodge Charger near the US 24 exit in Jasper County.
Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department located the vehicle eastbound on US 24 from the interstate.
The vehicle went down into a ditch and crashed just east of the interstate and the driver bailed out and ran.
Troopers arrived to the scene of the crash, along with the White County Sheriff's Department K-9 handler and were able to locate the suspect.
Anthony Jenkins, 25 year old from Chicago, was taken into custody without incident and later transported tot the Tippecanoe County Jail.
Jenkins was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless driving, and operating while never receiving a license.
