Indianapolis firefighter injured

While battling a major house fire early Monday morning, an Indianapolis firefighter was injured.

Just after 5 a.m. on the southeast side of Indy, the homeowner said he was getting ready for work when he heard a popping noise from his attic before seeing smoke pouring through the vents.

He woke his family and got them out to safety while waiting on the fire department.

Crews say the fire kept flaring up, but had extinguished it by 6:30 a.m.

The injured firefighter was taken to the hospital with neck pain, and he is expected to recover.
