INDOT holding public meeting on Cougar Road safety improvements

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind.—INDOT is holding a public information meeting on Thursday to discuss proposed safety improvements for Cougar Road (C.R. N. 700 E.).

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. (CST) on July 25 in the cafeteria at New Prairie Middle School and will feature an informal open house before and after a formal presentation about the project.

The proposed project, according to INDOT Northwest, would add features aimed to improve safety in the area, including:

  • One-way, northbound only traffic between State Road 2 and the main drive into the school complex, in between New Prairie High School and Middle School
  • A new traffic signal at the intersection of Cougar Road and U.S. 20 where traffic would remain two-way
  • Turn lanes added to U.S. 20 and Cougar Road
  • Extension of left turn lane for eastbound traffic from S.R. 2 to Cougar Road

INDOT says the project is under consideration for construction in 2020.
