INDOT prepares for snow in Michiana; plow drivers put to test

PLYMOUTH, Ind. –- Winter is still a couple of months away, but the Indiana Department of Transportation is already preparing for snow!

On Tuesday, nearly 50 snow plow drivers gathered in Plymouth to put their skills to the test. Drivers had to avoid make-shift mailboxes, drive through tight curves, and back into narrow alleys!

"Driving in an obstacle course is one thing, because you're in a controlled environment. But, when they get out there with the elements and cars driving around you. That's when it really challenges our drivers and that's why we really want them to be comfortable,” said INDOT Spokesman Jim Pinkerton.

Drivers were scored on how well they followed safety guidelines.
