Infant dies in buggy crash, driver arrested
A young driver was arrested Thursday night for his role in a deadly crash involving his car and a buggy in LaGrange County.
The La Grange County Sheriff's department says Caleb Wingard was driving too fast when his vehicle crashed into a buggy carrying an Amish family late Thursday night.
The crash happened in Clearspring Township on 600 W. north of 400 S just before 11:30 p.m.
Police say Wingard rear-ended the buggy.
An 11-month-old baby traveling inside the buggy was ejected, along with two other toddlers, ages 2 and 3.
The toddlers were airlifted to Parkview Fort Wayne where they were last listed in critical condition.
Wingard was arrested on charges of minor in possession, violating a learner permit, speeding too fast to avoid a collision and following too closely.
