LA PORTE, Ind. -- Officials in La Porte say that at approximately 7:00 p.m. firefighters of Coolspring Township Fire Department received an alarm that the baby box had been accessed.
According to authorities Lt. Chuck Kohler was the first to arrive at the station within a minute of the notification.
When he arrived Kohler found a newborn infant in the baby box.
La Porte County Emergency services responded to assist shortly after.
The infant was then transported to Franciscan St. Anthony's hospital in Michigan City by ambulance.
Officials say the baby appeared to be in good health and had no medical issues when evaluated.
This is the second time on record that a newborn infant has been left in the baby box.
The last time a baby was left in the baby box was on November 7, 2017.
It was installed at the station in April of 2016.
