Injured driver flown to hospital after serious crash

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a crash that sent a driver to the hospital Thursday.

The call went out around 1:48 p.m.

Police say 21-year-old Lucy Vallance of Middlebury was heading north on County Road 22 coming to the intersection at County Road 127.

A second vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Christopher Veich of Elkhart, was heading north on County Road 127 preparing to turn onto County Road 22 at that intersection.

Officers say Veich failed to yield the right of way and crossed into the path of Vallance causing a collision.

21-year-old Lucy Vallance of Middlebury struck the driver’s side of Veich’s vehicle sending it off the southeast corner of the intersection of County Road 22 and County Road 127.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Veich suffered head injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by Medflight to Parkview Memorial Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne. 

The investigation in ongoing in this crash.
