ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A female inmate was found dead at the St. Joseph County Jail in the early morning of July 13.

The inmate, identified as 28-year-old Janette Navarro, was found unresponsive in her cell.

Officers attempted life-saving efforts until medics arrived.

Navarro was eventually pronounced dead at the scene. 

No foul play is suspected, and Indiana State Police has been called to the scene to investigate further. 

An autopsied is scheduled to be performed Tuesday July 15, 2025, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The family of Navarro has been notified.
