UPDATE: Deceased St. Joseph County Jail inmate identified by ISP

UPDATE: The Indiana State Police announced it's investigating the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail Friday.

The inmate, identified as 34-year-old Dustin Pate, was found unresponsive in his cell during routine cell checks, according to the St. Joseph County Police Department.

Staff began life-saving measures while South Bend EMTs were called.

Pate was subsequently pronounced dead at the jail.

ISP states no foul play is suspected.

Pate's autopsy is scheduled for Sunday at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where the cause and manner of the death will be determined.

Pate's family has been notified.

Pate was in jail facing several felony charges including Attempted Murder following a police chase which ended in a crash on Jan. 19.

ORIGINAL STORY: ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Friday afternoon, during routine cell checks, St. Joseph County Corrections Officers discovered an inmate unresponsive in a cell.

Officers immediately initiated emergency procedures and requested assistance from medical staff

Life-saving procedures were performed for 40 minutes; however, the inmate was pronounced dead.

SJC Corrections Officers notified the Indiana State Police, as part of standard procedure, and ISP will conduct the investigation.

Additional information will be released by the Indiana State Police after next of kin has been notified.
