Inspectors find 13 violations at Chase Tower
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- After a recent inspection, the Chase Tower was cited for 13 violations. An ABC57 investigation prompted the South Bend Fire Department to take a second look at the tower. The historic tower goes up for auction on Thursday.
They found expired fire extinguishers, missing electrical covers, and issues with the building's sprinkler system.
People who work in the Chase Tower or go there often were shocked to hear about the violations.
"It makes me think twice about coming back here," said Crystal Rucker.
"I have concerns about whether or not we're safe," said Wendy Savari.
Property Manager Bruce Gordon hung up on ABC57 when he was asked about the violations. We wanted to know what he was doing to make sure the people working in the building were safe.
We went to his office and waited two hours inside the lobby, but Gordon never showed up.
"For me and everybody else, I'm definitely concerned about our safety," said Rucker.
The building will be inspected again Thursday to find out what progress has been made on the violations.
The sheriff's sale will also be happening Thursday.
