Driver pronounced dead after SUV is pulled from St. Joseph River

ELKHART, Ind. -- A driver is dead after he and his vehicle were pulled from the St. Joseph River in Elkhart Monday, the Elkhart Police Department confirmed.
At 11:35 a.m., a passerby told police that a vehicle drove into the river at McNaughton Park.
No one else was in the vehicle besides the driver, police said.
Per protocol, the homicide unit was called to the scene.
The vehicle was pulled from the river around 3 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle was confirmed deceased at the scene after being pulled from the river.
