ISP investigating deadly crash between buggy and dump truck

ABC 57

SHIPSHEWANA, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police reports they're investigating a crash involving an Amish buggy and a motor vehicle which occurred around 3 p.m., Wednesday, on US 20 near C.R. 1000 West.

Police say their initial investigation determined the horse-drawn buggy, occupied by 75-year-old Marvin and 74-year-old Ruby Shrock of Shipshewana, was traveling east on the shoulder of US 20.

Authorities say for an unknown reason, a 2019 Ford F550 dump truck, driven by 20-year-old Gael Reyes of Sturgis, drifted onto the shoulder, striking the buggy.

Marvin and Ruby were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Their families have been notified.

Investigators say at this point, drug and alcohol aren't suspected as a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the ISP Critical Incident Reconstruction Team.
