It’s the season for potholes

Michiana’s recent drastic winter freeze and thaw cycle has brought on prime conditions for pothole formation.

Potholes form when water seeps into cracks in the roads and freeze, causing layers of the pavement to expand and break.

St. Joseph County Officials say crews are working to patch the potholes on Cleveland Road using a cold mix of small stones and liquid asphalt but the holes will require ongoing maintenance throughout the winter.

Officials encourage drivers to slow down and stay alert when approaching a pothole, as they can be damaging to vehicles.
