SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A civil rights complaint was filed Wednesday against Indiana University South Bend claiming the school discriminated on the basis of race, color, and/or national origin, in violation of federal civil rights laws.
The lawsuit lists five specific scholarship that are promoted through the IUSB Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion scholarship page.
The Clark Equipment Minority Scholarship, Helen F. Pope Memorial Scholarship, IU South Bend Black Council Scholarship, Kem Krest “Crossing the Finish Line” Bicentennial Scholarship, and the NAACP Scholarship are all targeted in the lawsuit.
"The scholarships identified above violate Title VI by discriminating on the basis of race, color, and/or national origin," the complaint states.
"Furthermore, because IUSB is a public university, such discrimination also violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment."
