IUSB students bring attention to more open spaces in urban areas

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- IU South Bend transformed a faculty parking lot into a public park.

Students told us they wanted to bring attention to the need for open spaces in urban areas.

The event was called "Parking Day" and students played with Hula Hoops, jump ropes and even sidewalk chalk.

"We are just trying to get the point across that it is still a usable space," said junior Ian Spink. "A lot of times people just park here and they forget that this space that can be used for all kidns of things, not just putting your car."

Thursday's "Parking" event was sponsored by IUSB's Center for Sustainability and Wellness Club.
