JC Penney to make changes at the checkout

JC Penney is trading in check-out counters for self-checkout machines.

CEO Ron Johnson said the department store chain is replacing all of its technology infrastructure with a new system that won't require clerks.

Shoppers will use machines similar to those found in many grocery stores. The company hopes to phase out checkout counters by 2014.
