MISHAWAKA, Ind.—John Young Middle School’s Lego Robotics Team won big at an international competition sponsored by NASA over the weekend.

Eight rising eighth-graders and freshmen won the Spirit of Discovery Award and placed second in the Robotics Runs against teams from around the globe.

According to the school, the project they worked on could change what astronauts eat in space and save NASA thousands of dollars.

The competition was held in Flagstaff, Arizona as a party of NASA’s 50th anniversary celebration of the moon landing.
