Junior League Thrift Shot kicks on in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The 83rd Annual Junior League Thrift Shop kicks off on Saturday morning at 8 at the Century Center in downtown South Bend. ABC 57’s Kim Chappell got a sneak preview inside the event to sift through some of the deals and steals that shoppers can find.

It’s been described as the “mecca” of all garage sales. Donations all come from the 200 members and family members of the Junior League of South Bend. It’s all divided into sections: men’s, women’s, kids, holiday items, furniture, shoes and even a section of brand new items.

Some of the deals we spotted are men’s suits for just $6 and women’s blazers for $4.50. We also found enough women’s blouses to fill an entire closet and all for just 3 dollars each.

Ann Amico Moran, the President of Jr. League of South Bend, said they also get brand name items like American Eagle, Ralph Lauren and Lily Pulitzer.

There are also antiques buried in the piles of goodies as well. We found an antique hand carved Victorian chair worth about $200 but on sale for about a third of the price.

If you want new items, they have those too. Just head back to the “Cream of the Crop” section where you will find brand new bathing suits donated from Outpost and a table full of expensive stationary, paper goods and invitations all for a around a dollar.

We even spotted brand new fur coats worth thousands of dollars on sale for only $100.

Moran said, “It supports our community impact organization which is early childhood education.”

And she says it’s worth coming to check out one of the fanciest garage sales of the year.

“It’s an upscale garage sale because we are really kind of picky!,” she said.

Doors open at 8 on Saturday morning and the event runs until 2pm.
