Juvenile allegedly holds man and 8-year-old son at gunpoint during attempted robbery

NEW PARIS, Ind. -- Deputies responded to reports of an attempted robbery on Thursday around 2:30 p.m., where a juvenile allegedly held a man and his son at gunpoint, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office.

According to the caller, a 17-year-old man held him and his 8-year-old son at gunpoint during a Facebook Marketplace transaction, which was taking place in the 18000 block of US Highway 6.

The unidentified juvenile allegedly stole the victim's cellphone, keys and attempted to steal the victim's car.

Deputies later located the 17-year-old and arrested him.

He is now incarcerated at the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center for robbery, a level 3 felony.
