Juvenile facing charges in W. Lusher attempted robbery

The Elkhart Police Department says it has identified the suspects they say were involved in the attempted robbery of the Cueramaro Supermarket on West Lusher Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the supermarket around 1 p.m. when customers spotted two suspects, one armed with a rifle type gun, who started to enter the store, but fled the area.

Investigators recovered the gun.

Detectives identified the suspects and one, a 16-year-old male, was taken into custody on Wednesday.

He is being held in the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a hearing.

Police say the attempted robbery may be related to the robbery on Sunday of the Hernandez Bakery, also on West Lusher Avenue.

"We have some of the evidence and some of the stuff that we have that leads us to believe that the two might have some connection and this point our detectives are still working on putting all the pieces of both cases together to see if they do line up. But there is some evidence that tells us they are probably going to be connected," said Sergeant Chris Snyder of the Elkhart Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing.
