K-12 Summer Travel Program goes regional
ELKHART, Ind. – The Interurban Trolley announced Thursday that they will be joining with South Bend Transpo to create a free regional Summer Travel Program for all K-12 students.
The Summer Travel Program will provide free transportation to students in grades K-12 aboard all Interurban Trolley and Transpo fixed-route buses from June 1 through August 31.
To receive a free ride, students will need to either show their valid student ID or a Summer Travel Pass each time they get on the trolley.
“The Interurban Trolley is proud to join Transpo and make their successful Summer Travel Program a regional initiative,” James Turnwald, Executive Director at the Michiana Area Council of Governments said. “The Summer Travel Pass will increase access to employment, educational, and recreational opportunities throughout the region, and introduce K-12 youth to public transportation.”
The free fares will be available to K-12 students (18 and under) on all five Interurban Trolley fixed routes serving the cities of Elkhart and Goshen, all the Transpo routes serving the cities of Mishawaka and South Bend, as well as on the Yellow Line providing service between Mishawaka and Elkhart.
For students who are home-schooled or those who attend a school that does not issue student ID cards, please contact the MACOG office at (574) 674-8894.
