K-9 Jake assists officers in locating narcotics, stolen property

THREE RIVERS, Mich.—A K-9 officer assisted police in finding narcotics and stolen property on July 26, according to the Three Rivers Police Department.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of Millard Street for reports of people stealing items from yards around 7:12 a.m. on July 26.

Police located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle.

Three Rivers Police Department’s K-9 Jake was called to assist after officers suspected drug activity.

K-9 Jake alerted officers to the presence of narcotics during a search of the suspect vehicle.

Inside of the vehicle, officers located crystal methamphetamine and drug packaging as well as a “substantial amount” of stolen property from area homes.

With help from Michigan State Police, officers determined that the suspect vehicle was stolen from a White Pigeon car dealership a few hours beforehand but a report had not yet been made.

A 28-year-old man and a 63-year-old man were arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on suspicion of larceny, methamphetamine possession, receiving and concealing stolen property and unauthorized driving away of an automobile.
