K9 tracks suspect in double home invasion

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – A 71-year-old reported to police that she woke up to a man standing over her after he allegedly broke in her apartment early Wednesday morning.

Michigan City police were called to the 1800 block of East Barker Avenue where the woman lives to investigate the apartment.

The elderly victim reported that when she was woken up by the man’s presence he grabbed her. She was able to escape her apartment and called the police from a neighbor’s phone.

Police found that some the intruder did take items from the home.

Officials believed that the suspect crawled through an unlocked window. Detectives went back to the home for further investigation and found a rear glass window was broken with another window opened.

The detectives believe the house was re-entered while the victim was not home on Wednesday.

The suspect was tracked down by MCPD’s newest K9, Axel.

KeJuan Harrison, 19, was taken into custody and is currently held on bond.

Harrison was initially charged with level IV Burglary but additional charges may be filed.
