Kansas: State sues sperm donor for child support
TOPEKA, Kan. -- A Topeka man faces a child support battle after he donated sperm to a lesbian couple.
The state is demanding he pay child support because they did not go through a licensed physician or clinic, which a current state statute requires.
All three signed an agreement that relieved him of any guardianship or visitation rights. The donor said he was trying to do a good thing and if he could go back, he would do things much differently.
"What I would do differently is start by going to a lawyer and saying, 'What kind of things do I have to do to get out of it?' To stay out of trouble? To keep this from happening?' But I was totally unaware of this kind of thing would even be possible," said William Marotta.
The women said they are not seeking child support from the donor and this is strictly through the state.
