Keep your kids safe this school year

Keeping your kids safe while they are in school is not only a top priority for teachers and staff, but also Indiana lawmakers.

The state’s put aside millions to promote school safety in Indiana after the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

And as your students make their way back to class, ISP officers want to remind you of safety protocols they’re teaching around the state.

ISP says in the case of a serious emergency, like an active shooter, to follow the “run, hide, fight method."

Meaning:

If there is an accessible escape route, take it.

If evacuation is not possible, find a hiding place where the active shooter is less likely to find you.

And as a last resort, and only if your life is in immediate danger, attempt to disrupt or incapacitate the active shooter.

The Indiana State Police also have safe school active shooter training which school administrators can sign up for by contacting their local ISP public information officer.
