Kelly Comprehensive Breast Center receives special blessing
The St. Joseph Health System Paqui and Brian Kelly Comprehensive Breast Center received a special blessing Tuesday.
Bishop Kevin Rhoades held a private blessing ceremony around 1 p.m. Tuesday, which led to an open house for the community to check out the latest technology at the center.
During the event, Paqui Kelly gave a tour of the facility and talked about new standards of breast health.
"Having this locally is great for this community regionally and that’s what I'm hopeful for. I would love to eradicate cancer like everyone else, but in the meantime, if you can catch it early and have facilities for that,” said Kelly.
The center offers everything from breast cancer prevention and screening to diagnostic care, risk assessment, navigation services and cancer treatment surgery, and survivorship care.
Only one of two offered in Indiana, the center is home to some of the latest technology including a new form of breast imaging, which helps pin-point abnormal cells in dense breast tissue.
One of the recipients of the foundation received her mammogram and procedures free of charge after getting her diagnosis last year.
“I heard the diagnosis and that’s all I could focus on so that’s why being here with this community helped me because they did all of the work for me. They had a team put together so I didn’t have to do any of that research, all my appointments were made and the team was just put together and it was seamless,” said Breast Cancer survivor, Meg Radde.
All of the cutting-edge technology is available because of the Kelly Cares Foundation.
