ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. - A Kentucky man was killed in a crash on State Road 13 near the Indiana Toll Road Tuesday night, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m.

According to law enforcement, the victim, 44-year-old Mahlon Coblentz of Columbia, Kentucky, was outside his vehicle trying to signal for traffic to stop for a separate crash that was blocking both lanes of S.R. 13.

For unknown reasons, a South Bend woman driving a pickup truck did not stop, and instead drove the wrong way into the southbound lane, hitting Coblentz, according to police reports.

Coblentz was pronounced dead at the scene.
