A fire in South Bend leaves building ablaze
The manhunt for the inmate accidentally released from an Indiana jail, Kevin Mason, comes to an end today.
The Marion County Sheriff's office confirmed the news in a Facebook post today, stating that Mason was apprehended in St. Paul, Minn. by the U.S. Marshal Service around 2:00 p.m. on September 27.
Mason, was arrested on three Minnesota warrants, including suspicion of murder, on September 11, 2023, but due to an error, he was released days later.
A records clerk, thinking they were correcting duplicate bookings, removed two holds on Mason's file, and the next day, a different clerk lifted the final hold.
The two inmate record clerks have been fired.
Mason is now behind bars in Minnesota.
