Kool and the Gang and The Commodores coming to Elkhart for free concert 'Under the Stars'
ELKHART, Ind. -- The City of Elkhart held a press conference Tuesday to discuss the upcoming free "Under the Stars" concert on the Central Green, featuring Kool and the Gang and The Commodores, on Sept. 6.
The concert is presented by the Lerner Theatre and The Elkhart County CVB. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday's press conference included remarks from Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson, General Manager of the Lerner Theatre Carl Thompson, and Communications and Marketing Director at the Lerner Theatre Jenna Brouillette.
Organizers emphasized the importance of music and culture in Elkhart, utilizing this outdoor space for the concert, plus possible future events.
"We realize that this venue hasn't been used the way that it's going to be used. We also realize that to have this level of entertainment for free is a part of a bigger vision for Elkhart. We really would like for this area to become the kind of area that hosts these types of events, and we want to make sure that we do it in collaboration with so many different people, which we've done for this particular concert. So, I really want to thank the Elkhart Visitors and Conventions Bureau for their work in bringing this concert alive," said Roberson.
City officials said there will be several road closures starting at 8 a.m. Saturday surrounding the Central Green.
There will be various vendors and food trucks, and carpooling is recommended.
Tents aren't allowed, but coolers are. No outside alcohol is allowed.
You can bring lawn chairs.
