Kosciusko County officials investigating fatal shooting

LEESBURG, Ind. -- One woman is fighting for her life after being shot in the shoulder, and the shooter, police say is dead.

Police say the shooting happened around 5:30 Monday morning at Katie's Kwick Mart on State Road 15.

According to officials, an estranged husband chased his wife into the mart. The female had ran into the store frantically asking for help from the store clerk and went behind the counter area.

The male suspect, who was armed with a handgun, could not get behind the counter. He fired one round from the handgun striking the female victim in the shoulder, then fled the scene in a maroon pickup truck.

A Warsaw police officer spotted the potential vehicle shortly after in a parking lot on Ivy Tech's Warsaw campus. When officers approached the vechicle they discovered the suspect had a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The female victim was airlifted to Fort Wayne and is in critical condition. Detectives say the male suspect and the female victim were divorced, but were living near each other in Milford.

Kosciusko County Coroner's Office has not released the names of the two people involved at this time.
