SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Salvation Army Kroc Center in South Bend on Tuesday gave out more than 1100 “Angel Tree Bags” to families that contained clothes, toys and food for the holiday season!
Over 500 volunteers were involved in signing up families to receive an Angel Tree Bag. Parents were allowed to pick two gifts for each of their children.
Volunteers for the Salvation Army say that the gift bags provide much-needed relief to struggling families.
“Salvation Army is the coordinators,” Major Monty Wandling said, Executive Director of Kroc Center. “But really, the community is who’s given all these things, so it’s a wonderful way to express how giving in our community is in this area St Joseph County. It’s wonderful to see and the response was amazing. All the little angels were adopted.”
Several local groups and organizations pitched in to provide gifts for nearly 2,200 children.
The Salvation Army is still collecting money and accepting donations, which will be used to help Michiana families.
