La Casa de Amistad receives $267K grant for new commissary kitchen

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend’s Redevelopment Commission awarded a $267,000 grant, through the Pokagon Fund, to La Casa de Amistad to support the completion of a new commissary kitchen.
The Pokagon Fund is a nonprofit private foundation that supports local communities and nonprofits through its grantmaking activities and if funded by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.
The kitchen will be shared-use and available to be rented by members of the public to promote economic opportunity for small-scale, food-based entrepreneurs.
The space will feature professional quality commercial ovens, ranges, refrigerators, freezers, sinks and work tables, providing all the necessary equipment to produce food for sale efficiently.
The renovations are scheduled to be complete in fall 2025.
