La Casa to renovate Hawks Building in Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. -- An old building in Goshen is getting a new lease on life and new tenants.

The crumbling Hawks Building on Mill Race Canal has been empty for years but not La Casa is renovating the space into a living space.

The group hopes to create 24 apartments for the city's growing artist population.

"The point of the live work space is to provide affordable housing for people who want to have their artist studio in their apartment or run a small business from their apartment," Larry Gautsche, president of LaCasa.

The renovation is expected to cost $7 million. The group is using grant money and private funding to complete the project.
