La Paz Township barn fire calls in five departments

LA PAZ TOWNSHIP, Ind – Five different crews were called in to help put out a barn fire just after 1 a.m. Tuesday in La Paz Township.

Fire officials say the barn, on the 10000 block of 5B Road, was fully engulfed in flames when crews got to the scene.

Over five departments responded, primarily with tankers, to offer extra water supply.

The La Paz North Township Fire Chief, Chad Robertson, said that is common in rural areas.

Robertson said crews had to knock down and rip apart a lot of the inside structure to put out the flames.

“Basically the roof fell down on the fire so we had to go in there and take all the stuff off the fire to get into it,” said Robertson.

Crews were on the scene for over three hours, working on hot spots.

No animals were inside the barn.

Neighbors said the barn is used as a working space.

Investigators were still trying to pinpoint the cause as of Tuesday morning.
