La Porte County deputies investigating drowning

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 61-year-old man drowned in a pond after his boat capsized, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.

First responders were called to the 7100 block of Joliet Road for a drowning Saturday around 3:45 p.m.

The Westfield Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene first and confirmed the man's death.

Deputies say 61-year-old Glenn Zeman was in a boat on the water when it capsized.

Zeman's body was pulled from the water a short time after the watercraft was found.

La Porte County Coroner Bob Cutler ruled Zeman’s cause of death to be suffocation resulting from the aspiration of water. A secondary cause was Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

The Department of Natural Resources, the Westville Police Department and La Porte County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
