LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A La Porte County Sheriff's deputy was not injured in a crash that happened early Tuesday morning.

Deputy Alex Clemons contacted the dispatch center after being involved in a crash just after 6:30 a.m. CST.

He told dispatchers he was trapped in his vehicle, but was not injured.

By the time fellow deputies responded to the crash at CR400 S and Long Lane, Deputy Clemons had freed himself and checked on the other driver, reports said.

The investigation revealed a Chevy Malibu was traveling east on CR400 South when the driver stopped at the stop sign, then entered the intersection.

Police said the driver failed to yield to the deputy's vehicle, which was headed northbound.Photo courtesy La Porte County Sheriff's Office

The front end of the Malibu struck the driver's side of the deputy's patrol car.

The driver of the Malibu was not injured. He was cited for failure to yield.
