La Porte County woman killed in crash involving train

A La Porte County resident was killed when she was struck by her vehicle, which was struck by a train Friday morning, according to La Porte Police.

The accident happened at approximately 8:40 a.m. EST at the railroad crossing on Tyler Street.

Witnesses told police a Ford truck driven by 43-year-old Tricia White entered the railroad crossing as the gates started coming down.

Witnesses said she was either trying to turn around or drive around the gates when the truck became stuck on the tracks.

White and her 10-year-old son got out of the truck before it was struck by the train.

When the train collided with the truck, the truck struck White.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by La Porte County Coroner John Sullivan.

Her son was not hit by the truck, but was taken to the hospital for evaluation and was released.
