La Porte deputies seize large amount of marijuana during traffic stop

Two La Porte County deputies working the Domestic Highway Enforcement program on the Indiana Toll Road arrested one driver with a large amount of marijuana and another with marijuana and a handgun, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.

Late Tuesday morning, a deputy working the Indiana Toll Road spotted a vehicle traveling eastbound that committed a traffic infraction, reports said.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the Knute Rockne Service Area.

During the stop, the deputy located a large amount of marijuana in the vehicle, according to deputies.

The driver, 34-year-old Amanda Salmons of Ohio, was taking into custody on a preliminary charge of dealing in marijuana.

She is being held on $15005 cash only bond.

Two hours later another deputy observed a pickup truck whose driver allegedly committed two infractions.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and located an illegal drug and a firearm, deputies said.

The driver, 34-year-old Tshaka Brown of New York, was taken into custody on preliminary charges of possession of a handgun without a license and possession of marijuana.
