La Porte man sentenced to 15 years for unlawful possession of a firearm

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. - A La Porte County man was sentenced to 15 years after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Anthony Sanders, 35, was sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

In February 2021, Sanders was in Michigan City when he allegedly ran from police while carrying a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine.

He also discarded the firearm during the chase, according to case documents.

Police eventually collected the pistol and two extended magazines, one with 28 rounds of ammunition and another with 17.

Sanders has prior convictions that prohibit him from carrying a firearm.
