La Porte Sheriff's Office, area schools collecting water for Flint
Residents of La Porte County are taking time out to collect cases of bottled water for Flint residents.
LaCrosse High School in La Porte County is offering free admittance to Friday night's game between LaCrosse and South Central for anyone who brings a case of bottled water for Flint residents.
LaCrosse and South Central are big rivals and attendance is expected to exceed the gym's capacity.
Fans of either team are eligible for free admittance with a case of water.
The girls game starts at 6 p.m. CST and the boys game will start at approximately 7:30 p.m. CST.
If you cannot make the game, La Porte County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Lanoue is spearheading a bottled water drive to benefit students in the Flint, Michigan schools.
Deputy Jon Burger and Deputy Marvin McCoy will help deliver the water once the collection drive is complete.
La Porte County residents can drop off cases of bottled water at Westville, South Central, Wanatah and LaCrosse schools. The tentative end date for collecting the water bottles is February 12 with the donations being delivered shortly thereafter.
The sheriff's office is also holding a challenge between shifts to see which shift can make the biggest donation of water. As of Thursday, the day shift was in the lead with 20 cases, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
