LaPorte County burn ban could hurt local firework dealers

Light off a few firecrackers and Kenneth Carlson gets excited.

"I always loved fireworks when I was a youngster. And it just continued to take a hold of me," Carlson said.

He loved fireworks so much that he made a business out of it for the last forty two years. But this year is different.

The burn ban in La Porte County threatens Carlson's livelihood, and he's not happy about it. The current burn ban in LaPorte County strictly prohibits igniting fireworks.

He makes almost half of the year's revenue in the weeks before the Fourth of July. And if people can't light off fireworks, his business could suffer.
